THE SHIFT
What changed on June 16, 2026
Three things landed at once. Cowork left the Frontier early-access program and became generally available worldwide. Usage-based billing went live, metering Cowork task execution separately from the Copilot seat. And model choice expanded, with Cowork running on Anthropic’s Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 4.6 at GA and a cost-optimized Microsoft model, Cowork 1, on the way.
Your existing Microsoft 365 Copilot license does not change. It still covers Copilot Chat and Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams at the same per-user price. What is new sits on top of that license: Cowork’s task execution, billed in Copilot Credits.
